On the second of February, reading about Annette Kellerman and what she had achieved I wanted to pick up on her achievement in that she was the first woman to attempt to swim the English ocean and also changing the way women wore their bathers. So we had to come up with rough sketches of what we where thinking of designing. Once we had picked our design then we could do our twall.

Today being the 1st February, our class got given an assignment for the woollen mermaid, in which wen where split into pairs and had to come up with a bathing suit that we thought represented Annette Kellerman. We where given 3 pictures that we had to work around as well as the history of Annette Kellerman.

The netting in the swim suite represents the fish netting for the sea as she was the first woman to swim the English channel and the beading represents the coral of the sea that you find on shell as i think it would of taken her a while to swim the English channel and the shine represents the water as it would sparkle off of her as she stepped out of the water and made history.
Victoria Woollen mermaids
The woollen mermaid is a competition that all students at tafe has to create swimwear around Annette Kellerman. To me was a strong determined woman that helped shaped the women of today. In 1905 at the age of 18 she became the first woman to swim the English channel. In hence that is where I got my Inspiration. My swimwear we had to start of from designs that we sketched, and pictures that where given to us ..Lani and I worked together all the way through the process IE sketches, embellishments, what looked good what didnt, how to lay out our final displays.
